Hello GSL – here is your GSL School Update for March 27, 2025…..Have a great Friday and weekend.
This Saturday is the annual Tim Orth basketball celebration to help children and families with financial support that are in need. Hopefully you’ve seen some of the stories in the local paper.…. There is a 3 on 3 tournament starting at 9:00 AM, a free basketball clinic starting at 2:00 PM and an all-star basketball game later that evening, all take place at GSL High School. Please see the flyer for more information.
FYI for the residents of the City of Silver Lake………Street construction will tentatively start on June 2, 2025, starting at Lake Avenue (from Gehlen Drive to Cleveland Street) and Merril Street. This portion of the should be completed by the time school starts. The City of Silver Lake will continue to communicate with the School District on how this will impact the start of school in the fall of 2025. At this time, FYI for the residents of Silver Lake.
This is a reminder that GSL will have an early dismissal on April 2. We will also have an early dismissal on April 17 for teacher training. GSL WILL have school on April 21st due to the snow day on March 5, 2025.

Parents: We need your help! In order to accomplish all of the activities we have planned for prom we NEED adult chaperones. Traditionally, parents of sophomores are encouraged to volunteer but we are happy to have anyone willing to join us. Here is the LINK to sign up. Please consider this opportunity because without your help some of our events will not be able to happen.
If you would like to directly donate to After Prom, please do so via Venmo @GSL-AfterProm.

Looking ahead……………….GSL will have our roof project starting in a few weeks. The plan is to have as minimal disruption to the school day and summer plans as possible. With that being said, there will be some noise, staging areas that take up space, and certainly some inconveniences to our day-to-day schedule. We will certainly continue to communicate with you on things as we move along but wanted to give you a little FYI on things now. Thank you again to our stakeholders for your support of this important facilities project.
Also, on April 24, grades 10-12 will be viewing a “Mock Crash” from about 1:00-2:00 PM. This event is put on by McLeod County’s TZD (Toward Zero Deaths) Coalition once every three years. This event simulates an actual crash and all the steps our first responders take to assist if such an event happens in real life. The mock crash will take place out front by the field house. If for whatever reason your child does not want to participate, we understand and will find a place for them during this time at school. The purpose of this email is to inform all families that this will be happening in the north parking lot on April 24, 2025.
Finally, here’s my piece of advice as I sign off for this week……students, please make sure you are getting to school and going to class on time!! Being here is so important to your success as a student! Good attendance is a success trait, and we need our students to be at school. Don’t skip, only miss because of a legitimate, excused reason! Be here GSL and good things will happen!!
Thanks for listening. Take care, Chris
